Various projects in Progress

Bible Quilt -Jonah's Block
Last week I worked on various projects. It is fun for me to pick up whatever strikes my fancy and fits into the time I have. I paper pieced the sun for Jonah's block in my Bible Quilt. I am very happy with it! (It has a center that will be appliqued on too).

I also recently finished the red cutwork block that I began some time ago. I think it was Chris maybe who helped identify it as a block from Sentimental Stitches Just Take Two (2012) Red Quilt. I have collected many of those patterns when they were offered as free block of the month, but have only made this one block. It just spoke to me at a time when I am working on the Chester County Blocks.

The other project I worked on this weekend was basting the modern baby quilt. This is another item that began awhile ago (Dec. 2013) and is getting my attention now becasue I know exactly who it will go to now.  I am very excited to deliver it on March 3rd - a very important date in my life that has been a long time coming! I made the binding for it recently, a little narrow, but had to be this small to fit the fat quarter I had to make it out of! However, the quilt is small and the batting is warm & natural white - so fairly thin. I will MAKE it work because it is the look I want.

Happy New Year!

Today I saw this quilt for the first time. It belonged to my great aunt who taught me how to quilt (applique). However, it is was clearly not made by her -- not her style. Perhaps it was made by her mother, my great grandmother.  I noticed that the quilt has some fabric that was in my baby dress! It is the multicolored green, blue and pink floral with yellow snowball center (Small photos to the left, top row bow tie).

This is another block that is underway in my red cutwork. I have enjoyed working on it during the holidays while visiting family in California.

Divine Guidance Unveiled - TaDa!

This was lots fun! A good compliment to the holiday weekend and DH family reunion in Atlanta. It kind of reminds me of fireworks! This is the "raw" block - unpressed as of yet.

I imagine you can determine which tiny star I did first and which was last. The good news is that I improved by the time all were complete. Tiny start were a little challenging / tedious. The block looks OK - but nothing like the beautiful fabric selection used by Jane. I might make another center star sometime - but probably not those tiny stars :)

"Divine Guidance" block Emerges

Many of the quilt block designs and inscriptions on Baltimore Album era quilts had religious symbolism. It is a good reminder for day to day living! (Click image for close up).

I loved this block the first time I saw it on Jane's blog (esp. color choice!). It is quite daunting with those sharp points. I have studied about how to do them, but I think it will just take lots of practice. This is my best so far - much room for improvement :)

Here is the latest on the Rose Lyre Wreath...I continue to make progress on my writing each day and that means quilting time at night. .P.S. Missing DD who is on vacation out of state. It is not quite the same with just DH & DS here all the time

Summer work is going GREAT! (Close-Up Added)

My reward for working hard each day --> Quilting and Blogging!
So I get to post (AKA brag) often :) Didn't my red paper cut design turn out nice? It was so fun and carries many happy memories of places and travel times with family as I worked on it. The design idea was inspired by Leaving Baltimore: A Prairie Album Quilt and looking back over the past few months (has it been that long?!) you can see it taking shape. 14x14 size.  Click for detail.
Another red block is getting started soon...Can't wait to show it.

Spring Break

Spring Break begins with track star diva taking 2 gold and 2 silver last Thursday; V-ball tourney in Denver Fri-Mon. made it to gold bracket, had apple pancake breakfast made by Harriet Hargrave at her awesome shop in Wheat Ridge; then there was a brief stop over in Wyoming to see bison and visit Quilted Corner and get a great tip on dinner selection.
Travel and "wait" time allowed production of a few more circles - red ones 1/2 the size of the others and a little more applique. Spring break continues yesterday and today with purple paint for dd's room! Must download more photos for show and tell!

Progress - Baby Steps toward goals

It's a start...can you see it? (chain block). I'm considering keeping those outer points and adjusting the quilt overall to fit! Having MUCH fun with it! Will miss blogging friend in Tennessee who will be absent for awhile. Will revert to old fashioned calling and writing :)

2011 - Will be THE year for FINISHES!

I almost hate to put another post here because I like the looks of my appliqued block from last post SO much. But, this looks pretty good too. It is the full view of the freezer paper template for my new papercut applique. I have begun sewing it a little every few nights. I have been alternating between sewing and going to work out at the gym! I have already made one modification. The pointing appendages on the corners had to go. They made the block a little too big for the 14" block and I did not want to re-draw and re-scale the entire piece so I let those corners go. I still think it will be wonderful! The other wonderful thing is that sewing goes well with writing (writing reward). Yep, that means I am writing too! It has dawned on me that I am working on a theme for 2011. I want this to be the year of finishes. There are many opportunities to be successful in this realm. Can't wait to go forward!

Papercut Applique

Finished this about a week ago. It was a from a Baltimore Album block session I attended taught by Zolalee at Quilter's Corner last fall. I had been eying this design for awhile but never imagined I could/would make it. Nice and portable to v-ball diva's tournaments. I ENJOYED it SO much! Decided to do more. Inspired by paper cut of quilts seen in a book I picked up at the Baltimore Historical Society (and some seen in person :), Hawaiian style applique, and Beyond Baltimore: A Prairie Album Quilt book (DeArmond, Lang, & Spitzti) I designed my own 14" cut out pattern to complement the first one during the snow days! Here is a sneak peak...
